The standard video player used in all Windows PCs is Windows Media
Player (WMP). Most errors messages are the result of a PC that has
been "hijacked". This means another program has taken over
the video functions of WMP and doesn't know how to handle .avi files.
Sometimes, WMP is corrupted (damaged) by another program and no longer
works correctly.
You can test if WMP is the culprit by trying the CD in another
PC.
You can correct this problem by reinstalling WMP. You can either
reinstall directly from the Windows CDs that came with your PC
or by downloading from the Microsoft site at www.microsoft.com.
Be sure to get the correct version of WMP for your version of
Windows (98, 98SE, ME, 2000, XP). Reinstalling WMP is fairly
straightforward but not something I can advise over email/phone.
If you're uncomfortable, I suggest you get someone to help you.
