The Digital Photo Guy

Around Los Osos and SLO

California Photo Festival

Here are some photos from around the California Central Coast. Most of you know this area as home to CalPoly SLO, a world class engineering school. But, for those of us who have shed our pocket protectors and slide rules, this is a beautiful area, full of magnificent flora and fauna. I even found a great farm/junkyard where the price of admission was purchase of a small container of pluots (plum/apricot hybrid).

The first is a sign where we’ll be photographing this week. Gives new meaning to “photos that pop”. I titled the 2nd “Spider Condo”. In the 3rd, a huge wave splashed up just as I got there. I waited behind these people for 20 minutes, hoping for another wave but it never came. The 4th & 5th are flowers I saw along the beach. Can anyone help me identify them? The 6th is just another view of Spooners Cove in the mist. Number 7 was on the way out to Montana de Oro State Park and the last is a marigold farm where they’re harvesting seeds.

My favorite is the Trees in Mist. It reminded me of photos we took a few years ago while driving out to the Oregon coast from Portland.

The flowers are nasturtiums, edible flower.

Thanks Marie, I should have known you would know the flower names. They covered large portions of a hill near Spooners Cove. Unfortunately, the invasive Saharan Mustard was also trying hard to choke them out.

Very nice! I attended Cal Poly, SLO for Materials Engineering!

Hi Juan, I knew there was a techie, geeky-ness to your questions! I’m surprised to find so many SLO grads on my blog but, then again, I’ve always maintained that I write for thinking people, not lemmings.

Great photographs Lee. I love the Calif. central coast.

Lee, great photos. I lived in the area from ages 11 through 24 and graduated from Cal Poly. Great school and a great area to live in. Did you travel to Morro Bay and up the coast towards Cambria and Hearst Castle? There should be some great photo ops in those areas as well.

Doug, I didn’t know you’re an SLO alum. I’m impressed, I thought only geeky engineers came out of there! Just kidding.

Did you see the Flash Workshop at Deer Springs Winery and Auto Museum is now listed? It’s Nov 13 from 10AM to 1PM. Hope you can make it.
